There is never a shortage of profiling questions in regards to using a poker calculator. If you made a prudent decision and do actually own an empirical poker calculator, (one that profiles and opponents), you can't get lazy about it in thinking that the calculator can actually make the decisions for you.
As greatest tools as they are, you have to pay attention to the data is provided for you and respond in a way that's going to put you at least mathematically I had far more often than somebody playing without one. If you look at the profiling grid in this video, I point out some of those things that I always look at plan I'm about to make a decision to play a hand or during the hand. It's almost an ingrained habit and very important in terms of making a commitment to this game for long-term profitability.
It might sound tedious, it might sound like extra work, but all the good players with profitable statistics from the one dollar tables to the hundred thousand dollar tables - put in a lot of work to their poker game. So it's really up to you. You take a look at Gus Hansen's book, "Every Hand Revealed", while he actually got all of the material from that book from his voice recording device that he spoke into during and between every hand of the Aussie Millions tournament. Does that sound like dedication? You bet it does, and Gus' digital recorder is a common sight at big by in life tournaments. So if you can practice and work to get better, than its pretty good reason for you to do so as well.
Like I said before, it's just a become more of a habit than it is work. I was by myself checking a profile box looking for players with radical statistics. I want them at the table. I need them at the table. You think you might aggravate you in the lower limits, but in reality they are what provide the profitability, long-term. You can let them anger you can only play your best against them and devise a strategy for taking their chips.
That's what profiling is all about, and it's different for different kinds of opponents. That's what this video is about - picking your spots against the right player at the right time. In fact, given his see me get kicked out of this tournament but, I made the exact right play at the right time against the right opponent. Sometimes you get a deal with those types of moves not working out, but they work out often enough for you to make money in online poker. |
